Spencer is an Assistant Coach at Daredevil Jiu-Jitsu and first discovered Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under the tutelage of Tu Kaha’s Professor Pedro Fernandes in the early 2010’s. Currently a purple belt under Clinton Terry and Yoshi Koyama. He has been training in the art consistently since 2016.
A qualified personal trainer, Spencer has considerable experience coaching both kids and adults. He brings to the table a hybrid of Jiu-Jitsu and Freestyle Wrestling - of which he studies under Iranian National Champion and NZ renowned, Amir Bahrami - to his teaching style. He subscribes to the “dark arts” philosophy and particularly loves the ancient lore of brutal catch-wrestling, leg entanglements and cheeky wrist locks.
With the strong belief in promoting cross-training, Spencer founded the Sunday Open Mat which has now become a fan favorite at Daredevil.
He can be found attending classes as a student, teaching no-gi, taking 1-on-1 sessions, and overseeing the popular open mat every Sunday.
